A little room to think

One clearer reading question.

An unanswered question is different from an answer that goes against a claim. To tell them apart, ask whether the relevant question was examined and what the examination could distinguish. A missing response cannot supply its own result. Equally, a reported negative answer deserves interpretation in light of what was checked, rather than being treated as unlimited proof. Keep your note precise: identify the question, the kind of answer available, and the boundary of that answer. The next step follows from that distinction, rather than from treating every blank space as a verdict.

Questions to keep nearby

  1. Was the question actually examined, or does the material leave it unanswered?
  2. What could the reported check distinguish before a negative answer was interpreted?
  3. Which next question follows from the answer available without filling gaps by assumption?
